Scholarship: free Language Course for Dutch, German or French

Fast facts

  • Maastricht University (UM) now offers a limited amount of scholarships for an Advanced Dutch (B2 or C1minus), or a German & French (B2 or B2plus) language course
  • only for UM students
  • maximum of 1 scholarship per person
  • creates opportunities in the (EU) regional Dutch, German or French-speaking labour market
  • starting dates twice per year (in September and in February)

Are you a UM student looking to boost your chances on the (EU) regional labour market? With a scholarship, you can follow a free advanced language course in Dutch, German or French (B2, B2+ or C1minus level).

  • Dutch, German or French opens doors both regionally and internationally.

What does the scholarship include?

  • Full reimbursement of the course fee after successful completion.
  • A 14-week course at the UM Language Centre (starting in September or February).
  • Limited number of scholarships, only for UM students (1 per person).

Requirements

  • Minimum B1/B2 level in the target language (proven by certificate or course level check);
  • Motivation letter (150–200 words in the target language) explaining why you want to take the course and how it supports your employability and professional development;
  • At least 80% attendance (max. 2 missed classes);
  • Completion of the end-of-course evaluation form.


How to apply

  1. Do you have to correct level? If not, arrange a course level check.  
  2. Register via the website. Make sure to choose the right course:
  • Dutch B2: for students with current level B1 (for native German speakers) or B2minus (for all other mother tongue speakers) 
  • Dutch C1minus: for students with current level B2
  • French B2: for students with current level B1
  • French B2plus: for students with current level B2
  • German B2: for students with current level B1
  • German B2plus: for students with current level B2
